The Lockheed U-2 is a 50's reconnaissance aircraft. It is still in service today, albeit modified.
The main feature of the U-2 is its ability to fly at high altitude (seventy thousand feet, or about twenty-one thousand three hundred meters, twice as high as airliners) to be out of reach of Anti-aircraft defenses. It has a large operating range, but at a relatively limited speed.
